His parents have been beating education into his head before he could even speak and challenging him to chess matches as soon as he could play. And everyone knows smart people always play chess Observant: Though he may seem as though he's not, Aurelien is always watching others. Body language, facial cues, and intonation are quite relevant in his opinion. Decisive: Aurelien is not the type to hover between two choices for long. In surgery you don't have time to be indecisive and Aurelien has applied that to the rest of his life. Courteous: Being polite is something Aurelien values in a superficial way. He's all about saying please and thank you and opening doors for others. Open Minded: Aurelien is quite open to knew ideas and alternative life styles he's not the type to judge oddities too harshly (obviously) and doesn't much care if someone has what others deem socially deviant behavior. ► NEGATIVE TRAITS Eternally Lethargic: Due to his narcolepsy Aurelien always seems on the verge of falling asleep during the day time hours. Tactless: Needless to say Aurelien is not very good at delivering bad news to his patients gently. Recalcitrant: Though he can take orders, Aurelien is not the type to follow those he disagrees with. He is no soldier blindly marching into battle and he refuses to be. Miser: Spending his own money is something Aurelien hates to do. He has no qualms about spending others money and can be a bit of a mooch when he's feeling particularly cheap. Morally Questionable: Being staff at Deadman Wonderland naturally lends to one seeing questionable things. Aurelien obviously overlooks these things and does questionable things to his patients as well. ► SKILLS Quick Sew: Aurelien is particularly skilled with a needle and thread. This extends from patching up skin to tears in fabric and he can even create whole garments though he rarely does so. Medical Knowledge: Since he was a boy Aurelien has been studying the human body. He enjoys reading about rare conditions and case studies and his bank of knowledge is always expanding. Herbal Medicine: His mother owned a clinic that specialized in herbal medicine and he enjoys the art immensely. He particularly enjoys making things taste as foul as possible - but hey, they work! World play: What? Being a smart ass isn't a skill? Speed Reader: Aurelien has been reading since his parents could shove a book in his chubby little hands. It's no surprise he's gotten better at it. ► WEAKNESSES Narcoleptic: Aurelien's narcolepsy causes him to have problems sleeping at night and excessive sleepiness during the day time hours. He can fall asleep anywhere. His condition is not extreme but the random collapses, however infrequent, were enough to end his surgical career before it began - until he found Deadman Wonderland. Social Inept: Though he is quite observant and isn't oblivious to societal norms, the fact that he chooses to disregard them holds him back considerably. Physically Lacking: Aurelien is not the strongest by any means. If he can hold up his own body weight that would be a miracle. When it comes to a battle of pure physicality he would lose every time. This is a particular problem in a prison full of dangerous inmates. ► LIKES Cardiac surgery: What's better than holding someone's heart in your hand? Herbal Remedies: Particularly the foul tasting ones. Tea: If he's not elbow deep in some poor sod's chest cavity Aurelien is probably drinking a cup of warm tea. Success: Winning is everything. Or at least almost everything. Though failure is a part of life Aurelien really can't stand it. ► DISLIKES Patients Dying: Despite the fact that Aurelien isn't above experimentation on his patient's he does not like when his patients die. Perhaps it's a blow to his ego. Or perhaps it's simply the fact that he's been ingrained with the idea that doctors save lives. Being woken up: Though he's not the violent type, Aurelien is quite irritable when he's woken up. Interruptions: The best way to get on Elie's bad side is to interrupt him in the middle of his sentence. Rudeness: Aurelien is polite in a superficial way. He does not enjoy when people do not extend common courtesy to him. In his mind that means you should at least inform someone you're going to kill them before you do. Aurelien was born to a French mother and a Japanese father in La Souterraine. Both of his parents were doctors, his mother a holistic health practitioner and his father a neurosurgeon. Though he was born in the small village they didn't stay there long. The trio moved to Japan when Aurelien was still fairly young due to a job offer from a Tokyo hospital.

His parents pushed him to succeed academically and it was expected of that Aurelien would join the medical field as well. They did their best to get him into competitive jump start programs and made sure he attended schools that specialized in the sciences. With the aid of his parents, a head start, and time consuming after school programs Aurelien excelled quickly in the school system.

Trouble only arose shortly after puberty when the blonde found himself having erratic sleeping patterns with episodes of sleep paralysis and periods where he would suddenly fall asleep even if he was fully awake moments earlier. He was diagnosed with narcolepsy and his dreams of becoming a surgeon were quickly fading.

Still he went to school and did the best he could. He knew it would be impossible to work at any hospital without being a stand out student so he did just that. He made himself stand out.

But it wasn't enough. They were fine with him watching, observing, giving his input, but when it came to putting scalpel to skin he wasn't the one they wanted. For years Aurelien traveled about and studied under doctors who worked outside of the law. It was during one of these ventures that he met with the Chief Surgeon of Deadman Wonderland.

He's been at the prison ever since.
